Introduction

17-21 April

Week 15 will be the last push before our viva voce. There are still things that needs to be polish as well as finished up as this week will also be the week of Hari Raya and it will get pretty busy by then but I'm sure I can pull it off.

Things To Do

Publication

My publication has to be done and printed out latest by thursday. As I've already done 70% of the work there, the rest is actually to photograph my final product as well as take videos and images of the final interaction with my users.

CPJ

Thankfully, CPJ have been updated weekly now and that I do not have to worry to much. However I thought that I could have done more and better with the designs but its very simple so that my lecturers will be able to read and navigate with ease.

Final Prototype

I have decided that my final prototype would be made from acrylic but with professional polish. Though I had inspirations to make it using plastic and mould it in, I could not get ascess to the makers room in lasalle and even my polytechnic as I am already a graduant but that wouldnt stop me from continuing my fyp. I was thinking of doing an vacuum forming as well but the quote was very expensive for a very small product and I also couldnt find a company that does small and cheap quantity.

Sketches and 3d modelling

Without doing the 3d modelling, I think I would have wasted a lot more acrylic than I did before hand. Hence some of the error I notice it that it will take time to perfect the intersection. Although it will definitely make my whole product much more stable, it is definitely time consuming and also take up more acrylic pieces and I felt that that was a better way to do it instead but there will be cons in doing so.

Some footnotes: 3d model, laser cutting, 3d print.

Thoughs on modelling

Although I thought that I could have done more than just 3 legs, there are certain things that I took note off such as bending the acrylic and most rooms in lasalle wasnt available as many of them were occupied by other courses. So I had to make do of what I have and what I can do in the time being.

3D printing

Although I have also tried to 3d print my model, it will take more than 3 hours to produce even the top layer and that Tampines hub only offers you to bring a small scale product and that if you want something big, you have to print part by part which would really be time consuming.

Laser cutting 3 legs

I have come to conclusion that cutting only 3 legs will be the best option putting into consideration my wiring as well as breadboards that needs to be fit below my prototype. It would be much better if the wiring would have been hidden away from users so that they only see the exterior of it and not be alarmed by how much wire there is. However having a complicated design with hidden features might be hard to execute also looking at the amount of time I was left with.

Final Product

I decided to make my final prototype to look more fun and apporachable to play. Hence, I was inspsired by wavelengths which I then decided to input in my final artworks and below would be the progress from my laser cutting files to the final look.

Some footnotes: Modular, synthesizer, laser cutting, acrylics.

Final thoughts

Reflection

Soldering

The soldering was really a pain in the @ss but however I manage to pull it off even with a cheap soldering kit as I have done it back in polytechnic but that was much easier as I had a really good tools. But however they say it not the object it the person right. Thankfully everything work as it should.

Buttons

Though I felt that the button and knobs was a little bit too little, I was still happy with the end result as long as it is working and I am happy that I manage to pull it off smoothly. Though they are alot of future plans for nicer and more sick designs as there are a couple of people who were asking if I was selling it.

Final Thoughts

Everything was done neatly from the soldering, to connecting my modular to the computer and making it work, printing of catalogue of making as well as planning on how to nicely put everything in place for VIVA VOCE.

Final Message

Would like to thank everyone who was with me this whole journey physically or even just by giving feedbacks. I would also like to say that I'm very very proud with each and everyone from my class for pushing through the last semester! YALL DID IT!.
