Week 13 (Sem 2)

Farhan Superfly

Consultation after Open Studio.

Introduction

3-7 April

After our open studio, we had our last consultation on the deliverables, feedbacks as well as the improvements we would like to make by the end of week 16 and also for our VIVA VOCE.

Had a discussion with Andreas after my open studio and the things I could improve on by my final presentations. Things to take note of is to how to make my MIDI player or should I say modular and turn it into machine learning product. Some things in mind that I have is to make more than 1 machine learning applications the same way I did my workshop. To showcase people that machine learning has many forms and styles that people can get inspirations from for their next project as well as if they are interested to use it in the future.

Below are some image inspiration that I've gotten from other level open studios that I can use for in my final presentations. Some works are from BA level 2 and some are inspirations I got while going to Singapore Art book fair which broadens my perspective on zines. There were a lot of cool and different zines from different seller and publishers which got me question on how they do certain bindings and what are the pros and cons of these certain bindings as well.

A) To get started on the format and layout of my publications. All the images, experiments, prototype as well as high resolution images to be put and compilled nicely for my publication. Minimun size would be 20 x 25.

B) Think of a design options for my modular. Do I want to make the design minimal and sleek like all MIDI players are or do I want to make it fun and would attract people to touch and play with it?

C) Different variations for my visuals. Some visuals are line and shapes that will respond to the sound made. Or do I want to go deeper and explore more on how AI videos can intereact with the sound which produces better and more beautiful outcomes. Can be trippy or clear for the audience.

Things to accomplish by week 14.

⇀ Finish up taking prototype photography for prototype 2.

⇀ Formating and layout of publication.

⇀ Variations of generative art I would love to do.

⇀ Buying acrylic for further cutting of product.

Acrylic ↘

Bought my acrylics from an old timer who I work with for quite some time last few years ago. Best known acrylic store and also very very cheap. Will cut to any sizing that you want to and there are more than 10 variety of colors and styles to choose from.

Publication ↘

Not only did I went to see the works of year 2 students on their publications, I also went to book fairs, Gideon's studio as well as. I also got to meet Gideon as well as some old friends that have already graduated from Lasalle and having a good talk on my progression in school as well. Not only that I manage to ask them for solutions regarding prints and how I can make my publication look like how I want them to look like. Here as some things they mention in order to get my perfect publication.

⇀ Better to print on a gloss sheet of paper if you have high resolution images as it makes your images appear better.

⇀ Perfect binding my not be best if you're putting a whole image on 2 piece of paper as it might get cut off in the middle..

⇀ Saddlestitch, spiral or section sewn binding is the best if you want your audience to open your book fully.

⇀ Yes, Singapore prints are very expensive so make sure everything is done neatly and perfectly before your print.

What's on for next week?

To finish up 2 other products as well as taking high res images of it. I will also need to finish up my video edits and publications as well for my upcming viva voce.
