6 - 10 February
A group of Googler decided to design a machine learning game where even kids can learn how to use it with step by step process.
I found a newly updated version of teachable machine where they slowly and step by step explaining how machine learning
works and that it also teaches you the basics of machine learning with examples on how you can make it work by recording gestures
to activate a certain gif. So specific gestures would work on specific gif.
They also created a very systematic lesson plan for you before you start with anything and therefore I decided to follow
as these people who created these lesson plans are experts in the field and also it was proven to work especially for kids.
- No previous knowledge necessary, but some experience in Scratch, HTML, or Javascript will help.
- Knowing how to use a web browser, and word processing (copy and paste, select text, typing) is required.Laptops or computers with webcams are required.
- Laptops or computers with webcams are required.
- The program will run on a chromebook, however the power of the computer affects performance, so the framerate could drop on machines like a chromebook.
- Understand what machine learning is and basic termsHow is machine learning different from traditional algorithms.
- Understand how training data affects the performance of the algorithm.
- Understand how machine learning can be used in applications as input.
- Gain experience editing code.
- If your students could benefit from more time, break lesson 2 into two lessons, breaking after the first discussion.
- Repeat the 3rd lesson as many times as you like to create conditions for risk-taking and reflection.
Comparing to workshop 1 and 2, I felt that workshop 3 was really a stepping stone into slowly giving the idea of what machine learning is compared to just throwing them with machine learning tools to play around with without the understanding of what it really is what what it can actually do. I was also really happy that some of them remembered what machine learning is and its use in the real world.

Feedback on workshop 3.
⇀ With the teachable arcade, I finally understand how machine learning works. However I still feel like its a computer's magic instead tho.
⇀ I really had fun when it comes to the game and I got to use my own gestures to activate a jump.
⇀ Everything was fine and fun but definitely not the code. I just want to have fun hehe.
⇀ Yet another fun workshop to be in! Will definitely look forward to more..
These are the links related to how i started my workshop 3 and how i got motivated to do it! Do check it out if you too are interested in doing workshops in the future. Train yourself now to be more confident to talk to people.
